Preparing Talking Points

Although speakers may receive up to 3 minutes to speak, be prepared to make your remarks in only 1 minute!

Here are some examples of talking points you can use. Make it personal to why you care!
  • RCV in nonpartisan municipal elections is ideal.  Local elections often include several candidates and if no candidate gets the needed majority, a separate runoff election occurs.  The turnout in runoffs is historically low so fewer voters determine the winner.
  • RCV for military and overseas voters is ideal in order to avoid delays in receiving runoff ballots and ensure their votes count.  This is an important group of voters whose voices should be heard.
  • Runoff elections are low turn out elections and costly. Instant runoff elections (RCV) are won by the votes of a larger percent of eligible voters than runoff elections.
